How to convert Word to PDF

Choose a .docx file and click Convert. Your document's text, headings and bold styling become a clean PDF that looks identical on any device. Old .doc files should be saved as .docx in Word first. As always on everySIMPLEtool, the conversion runs locally — nothing is uploaded.

Why send a PDF instead of a Word file

Because a Word document does not look the same on someone else's machine. Fonts they do not have get substituted, margins shift, and a carefully laid-out CV arrives with the last line pushed onto a second page. A PDF renders identically everywhere. That is why every job application, tender and formal submission asks for one.

Fonts are the usual thing that breaks

If your document uses a font that is not widely installed, conversion has to substitute something close, and the spacing changes. Sticking to common fonts avoids the problem entirely. Always look at the converted PDF before sending it, particularly the page breaks.

What does not survive

Tracked changes, comments and hidden text should be resolved before you convert — accept or reject them first, because leaving them in is a well-known way to send an editor a document containing your internal discussion. Interactive Word form fields do not become interactive PDF fields; if you need a fillable PDF, add the fields with Edit PDF afterwards.

Going the other way

To get back to an editable document, use PDF to Word — though a round trip through both formats will not return you to exactly the file you started with.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert Word to PDF?

A PDF looks exactly the same on every device and can't be accidentally edited — ideal for resumes, invoices and contracts.

Do old .doc files work?

Not directly. Open the file in Word and save it as .docx first, then convert.

Is the conversion private?

Yes. The file is converted in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.

Why does my Word document look different as a PDF?

Usually font substitution. If the document uses a font the converter does not have, it picks the closest match and spacing shifts. Check page breaks before sending.

Do tracked changes and comments carry over?

Resolve them before converting. Leaving them in is a common way to accidentally send someone your internal editing discussion.

Will my Word form fields still work in the PDF?

No. Add fillable fields to the PDF afterwards with Edit PDF if you need them.
