How to compress a PDF to 100 KB
Job portals, government forms and visa applications often demand PDFs under 100 KB. This page opens our compressor with Extreme compression pre-selected — the strongest setting. Scanned documents of a few pages typically land well under 100 KB; very long or high-detail documents may end up larger, in which case splitting the PDF into parts first (see Split PDF) gets each part under the limit.
What realistically fits in 100 KB
A few pages of scanned text, or a text-based PDF of almost any length. A single high-resolution photograph will struggle. Extreme compression is pre-selected because gentler settings usually miss this target.
If it will not get there
Remove the blank pages a duplex scanner added with Remove Pages — on a long scan that alone can halve the size. Then split the document with Split PDF and submit it in parts if the form allows. Check too whether the limit is genuinely 100 KB; many forms state a figure but accept more, and 200 KB looks noticeably better.
Prevention beats compression
If you are scanning the document yourself, scan at 200 DPI rather than 600. That produces roughly a ninth of the file size before any compression, with no visible difference for ordinary text.
