What this can and cannot open
This removes a known password from a PDF so you no longer have to type it every time you open the file. You must know the password — it is typed in and used to decrypt the document. This is not a password cracker and will not open a file you do not have the password for.
The two kinds of PDF password
An open password is required to view the document at all; the contents are encrypted. A permissions password leaves the file readable but marks it as not-to-be-printed or not-to-be-copied. The second kind is a request rather than a lock, and most tools ignore it. This tool handles both, but the open password is the one that actually mattered.
The common legitimate case
Banks and utilities routinely send statements encrypted with your date of birth or part of your account number.
