How to compress an image to 100 KB

Application portals and forms often cap image uploads at 100 KB. This page opens our compressor with the 100 KB target already set — add your photo, click compress, and the tool automatically finds the quality and dimensions that fit under the limit. The result screen shows the exact final size.

The most common limit there is

100 KB is the default cap on a huge number of application portals, job sites and government forms. It is also a comfortable target: most photographs reach it with quality that still looks good on screen.

Getting a good result rather than just a small one

Reduce the dimensions first if the image is very large. An image around 1200 pixels wide at good quality will land near 100 KB and look sharp; the same photo left at 4000 pixels and compressed hard to 100 KB will look soft and blocky. Same file size, much worse picture. The image resizer takes ten seconds.

Photo requirements on forms

Application forms often specify dimensions as well as file size — a passport-style photo may need to be 600×600 pixels and under 100 KB. Set the dimensions first with the passport photo tool, then compress.

Frequently asked questions

Will the photo still look good?

For screens and document uploads, yes — the tool reduces quality only as much as needed to hit the target.

What formats can I use?

JPG, PNG and WebP go in; an optimized JPG comes out.
