How to crop a PDF
Open your PDF, drag a box around the area you want to keep, and click Crop — the same trim is applied to every page. Perfect for cutting off scanner borders, punch-hole shadows and oversized margins before sharing or printing.
What cropping does to a PDF
Cropping changes the visible area of the page, not the content behind it. The material outside the crop is hidden rather than deleted, which matters for one reason: do not crop to hide sensitive information. Someone can restore the original page area, and the text is still selectable underneath. To genuinely remove something, use Redact PDF.
The jobs cropping is genuinely good for
Trimming the enormous white margins on a scan so the text fills more of the screen — a real quality-of-life fix on a phone or e-reader. Removing the black borders a scanner adds around a page that was smaller than the glass. Cutting a scanned two-page spread down to one page. And squaring up a slide deck that was exported with the wrong page size.
Cropping and file size
Cropping usually does not make the file smaller, because the hidden content is still stored. If size is the goal, Compress PDF is the tool.

Does cropping delete the trimmed content?
Cropping sets the visible area of each page; the content outside it is hidden in viewers and print. To permanently destroy hidden content, use Redact PDF instead.
Can I crop each page differently?
This tool applies one crop to all pages, which covers the common case of uniform scanner margins. For page-level control, split the PDF first and crop the parts separately.
Will cropping reduce quality?
No — nothing is re-rendered. The page content is untouched; only the visible frame changes.
Does cropping delete the content outside the crop?
No — it hides it. The material is still in the file and can be restored, so never crop to conceal sensitive information. Use Redact PDF for that.
Will cropping make my PDF smaller?
Usually not. The hidden content is still stored in the file. Use Compress PDF to reduce size.
