How to convert HEIC to JPG

Select your HEIC photos (the format iPhones use), pick a quality, and download standard JPGs that open on any device, website or app. Convert one photo or a whole batch — multiple photos download together as a ZIP.

Unlike other converters, your photos are never uploaded: the conversion runs entirely on your device, which matters when your camera roll is personal.

Why your iPhone photos are HEIC

Apple switched to HEIC in 2017 because it stores the same picture in roughly half the space of a JPG. That is a real benefit when you have 40,000 photos on a phone. The cost is that a great many things still cannot open the format: older Windows machines, plenty of web upload forms, print shops, and most Android phones receiving the file directly.

Does converting lose quality?

Slightly, and unavoidably — HEIC and JPG are both lossy, so re-encoding introduces a small loss. In practice it is invisible for normal photographs at high quality settings. What you gain is a file that opens everywhere.

Live Photos and bursts

A Live Photo is a still image plus a short video. Converting produces the still frame only; the motion is not carried over, because JPG has nowhere to put it. If the movement matters, export the video separately from Photos on your phone.

Stopping it at the source

On your iPhone: Settings, then Camera, then Formats, then choose Most Compatible. New photos will be JPG straight out of the camera. The trade-off is roughly double the storage per photo.

Converting a lot at once

Add as many files as you like — they come back as a single ZIP. Everything runs on your own device, which for a folder of personal photographs is the point.

Frequently asked questions

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default. It saves space but many apps, websites and Windows PCs can't open it — converting to JPG fixes that.

Will I lose photo quality?

At the default 90% quality the difference is invisible for normal use. You can raise it to 100% for maximum fidelity.

Can I convert many photos at once?

Yes — add as many HEIC photos as you like and they download together as one ZIP of JPGs.

Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?

A small amount, since both formats are lossy. At high quality settings the difference is not visible in normal photographs.

What happens to Live Photos?

You get the still frame. The short video component cannot be stored in a JPG, so the motion is lost.

How do I stop my iPhone saving HEIC?

Settings, Camera, Formats, Most Compatible. Photos will be JPG at roughly double the file size.

Can I convert a whole folder at once?

Yes. Add all the files and they come back as one ZIP.
