Resize photos to Instagram sizes free: 1080x1080 square, portrait or story. No upload, no watermark, works on your phone.

Instagram image sizes that work

Square post: 1080 x 1080 px
Portrait post: 1080 x 1350 px - takes up the most feed space
Landscape post: 1080 x 566 px
Story or Reel: 1080 x 1920 px

This page opens the resizer with 1080 px width already set, which is the width Instagram uses for everything. Leave the height empty to keep your proportions, or type one of the heights above for an exact fit.

Uploading a bigger image does not help - Instagram compresses everything down to 1080 px wide anyway, and doing it yourself usually looks better than letting their compressor guess.

The sizes Instagram actually uses

Square posts are 1080×1080. Portrait is 1080×1350, which occupies the most screen space in the feed and is what most accounts use for reach. Landscape is 1080×566. Stories and Reels are 1080×1920. Instagram displays at 1080 pixels wide, so uploading anything larger just means their compression does the resizing for you, usually less kindly than doing it yourself.

Why your photos look worse after uploading

Instagram re-compresses everything. You cannot prevent it, but you can avoid giving it more work: upload at exactly 1080 pixels wide, in good quality, so the only thing it does is compress rather than compress and resize. Uploading a 4000-pixel image is the most common reason photos come out soft.

Cropping is not the same as resizing

Resizing keeps the whole picture and changes its dimensions. To fit a landscape photo into a square post without squashing it, you need to crop rather than resize, or accept white bars at the sides.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my photo look blurry on Instagram?

Usually because it was uploaded far larger than 1080 px and their compressor reduced it aggressively. Resizing to 1080 px yourself keeps more detail.

What size is best for the feed?

1080 x 1350 portrait occupies the most screen space and tends to get more attention than square.

Does this work on a phone?

Yes - the whole tool runs in your mobile browser, and your photos are never uploaded.
